Our story

Trillium is a three petal flower found in the wild, symbolizing the three women who founded the center. They met through a mental health support group in Manassas Virginia and discovered that they had a common dream, a center in Prince William County where mental health consumers could go to reduce feelings of isolation and alienation and work on their recovery in an emotionally and physically safe environment. In April 2007 they heard about some funding from the Commonwealth of Virginia available to mental health consumers.

A dream had the chance of becoming reality. Trillium opened its doors within 5 months of hearing about the grant opportunity. In September 2007 the center was born.

The Center staff has had training in many areas including Mental Health First Aid, Support Group Facilitation, Crisis Management, Peer Recovery Support certification, Telling Our Stories, and CPR and first aid.

We’ve never slowed down. The center has grown considerably in the years since then, adding physical space, serving more people, and reaching out into the community in many ways. Trillium Center participates in such programs as CIT and DIVERT and planning the annual Mental Health Awareness Event.

There is still much more to do for people living with mental illness. Your purchases from Trillium’s Hope Store will help us expand our services and increase our presence in the community.
